Artificial intelligence

There is this book called "Flowers for Algernon", it is about this person who has a very low IQ ( in short, he is mentally retarded ). He went for this operation to artificially increase human intelligence. this brings me to the whole point of this post. Is artificial human intelligence a good thing, or a bad thing? It exists that's for sure.

Increasing human intelligence artificially has its pros and cons. The advantages being that you can be much smarter, have a much stronger memory and helps you to understand things better, at a much faster speed. It also helps to increase your emotional range and enhance them.
You might think that " Hey it's so cool! Its so helpful! Iwould like to do it too!" If that's what you are thinking then I am sorry to say that you are sorely mistaken if you think that its advantages cover all its disadvantages.

The disadvantages in increasing human intelligence in this story is simply shocking. One will suffer from amnesia as the modified brain starts to degenerate. Soon, loss of mucle control follows. Next could be death.

There are a couple of reasons why i am against artificial human intelligencs. First, altering what is given to us is just like what people refer to as " Playing God". It is wrong. As normal people, craving for such needs is seriously being greedy, asking more of what is given to us. It is just like asking triple of the world's fortune. Besides, the risks of the operation could be fatal. In my opinion, being too smart, it tis almost impossible for us to communicate with a lot of other people as our intelligence surpasses all others. Thus, it will lead to our unhappiness. So it all burns down to one major question: Which is more important, Happiness or Intelligence?

  1. After reading your post, i'm sorry to tell you that I do not think that these are your personal opinions on intelligence V.S. Happiness. All the points you have listed have been discussed in class and you are just regurgitating information. Your posts would be more interesting if you could actually state something that is not very obvious in a sense. All your points are too straight-forward and that shows lack of deep thinking and analysation. - Jun Xian
